Mr Halitesh Datt, Fiji TV
3 July, 2013, Nadi, Fiji - With all the jargon and technical terms associated with climate change and changing weather patterns, it is often a tough task for authorities to relay scientific information to communities.
However efforts have now been made to educate people about climate change and weather pattern using animation.
Australian Climate Change Science and Adaptation Planning program with Red Cross last night launched an animated film to bridge the scientific communication gap.
Called "Climate Crab" this animation transforms scientific knowledge about El Nino and La Nina into simple language for common people.
Mr. Salesa Nihmei, SPREP
This new creative initiative is expected to go a long way in encouraging the region to take an early action in preparing for extreme weather events.
There has been an extensive consultation process before finalising this initiative. It took PACCSAP and the Red Cross almost 6 months to finalise this project
Silesa Nihmei says this is just the start of many such initiatives to come in future. He adds the important function of such projects is to get the message on climate change clear to the people on the ground level.
